For as little as the price of a book now you can help children overcome their difficulties.
The pandemic and digital education have led to an unprecedented backlog of the most vulnerable disadvantaged children in schools.
You are about to change somebody’s future
PISA surveys show that currently one in five children in Hungary has difficulty reading and this can seal their fate for life. In the absence of basic skills, they are later lost in the vast amount of curriculum that falls on them, they find it more difficult to learn, they fall behind their peers, thereby reducing their chances of further education and their chances of life. It can also be shown that school performance is heavily dependent on social background, so this rate in disadvantaged families is even higher.
How do we help?
- In collaboration with Vadvirág Foundation we launched an innovative and child-centric reading program available nation-wide. With the help of the program, teachers can identify children’s reading difficulties at an early stage and make them enjoy the activities that develop comprehensive reading. Teachers participating in this methodological training pass on the knowledge to their colleagues, thereby multiplying the effectiveness of the program and giving children in need a real chance to catch up. More than 30 schools with nearly 100 volunteer teachers are now taking part in the program, helping 1,500 children.
- The program is also avaliable now for our civic partners who help children from particularly disadvantaged backgrounds with after school activites and catch-up sessions, so help is there for the students in need.
Together with our corporate partners, we collect and deliver book donations to our civilian partners who are closest to the children in need. Since 2014, we have delivered more than 10,000 donated books to disadvantaged children, involving staff from 17 companies.
